《猎人：荒野的召唤》是一款狩猎模拟游戏，由于其游戏内容较为硬核上手难度较高，游戏内又有着非常美丽的景色，所以又有“步行模拟器”的戏称。
在发售两年多的时间里，游戏发售了数量和种类都较为丰富的DLC，不过直到19年春季末为止推出战利品陈列室为止，游戏的核心内容才算基本补完，即狩猎-收集战利品-展示战利品的完整过程。
与通常的游戏不同的是，这款游戏既不依赖操作，也不依赖智力，尽管狩猎策略是非常重要的一个方面，但这是基于经验而非基于计算或者分析上的。
也就是说，要想玩好这款游戏，操作和智力都不重要，经验或者说知识才是最重要的一环。
这就使得这款游戏的学习时间非常漫长，也难以建立一个有效的反馈机制。
大部分游戏玩家(包括各种主播)的游戏方式都是闲逛-寻找猎物-击杀猎物这么一个过程，这也是很多人对于这款“步行模拟器”的一般印象。
实际上，这种游戏方式是极其低效的。不过，我认为这也是体验游戏必不可少的一个环节，对于刚入手这款游戏的玩家，是一个不错的前期体验部分。
